Image to text
Read the text in a photo or screenshot on your device. English only for now. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop an image with text
Runs on your device with on-device AI. Your images are never uploaded.
How it works
- Drop an image with text onto the page, or choose one from your device.
- The first time, the text reader downloads and is cached for next time. Then wait while it reads.
- Check the text, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.
Questions
- Is my image uploaded anywhere?
- No. The text is read in your browser, on your device. Your image and the text found in it never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
- Why does it download something the first time?
- The English text model is about 4 MB. It is downloaded once and cached in your browser, so later visits start straight away. The download contains none of your data.
- Which languages does it read?
- English only for now. Text in other languages will usually come out as nonsense.
- How accurate is it?
- Clear, printed text in a straight, well-lit image works best. Handwriting, curved pages, blur and low contrast cause mistakes. When we are not confident, we tell you to check the text before using it.
- What if there is no text?
- We say so. Try a sharper or larger image, and make sure the text is the right way up.
