Video to GIF
Turn a short clip into an animated GIF. It is made on your device and never uploaded.
How it works
- Drop an MP4 or MOV video onto the page, or choose one from your device.
- Set where the clip starts and ends, up to 15 seconds, then pick the width and frame rate.
- Select Make GIF, then download it.
Questions
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
- No. The GIF is made in your browser, on your device. Your video, its name and its frames never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
- How long can a GIF be?
- Up to 15 seconds. GIF files get large quickly, so a short clip works best.
- What size and frame rate should I pick?
- Width 320 with 10 frames per second gives the smallest file. Width 480 with 15 frames per second looks smoother and sharper but is larger.
- Why do the colours look different from my video?
- A GIF can only use 256 colours in each frame, so smooth gradients can look banded. That is a limit of the GIF format.
- Does the GIF have sound?
- No. GIF files cannot carry sound, so only the picture is kept.
